PIDGEON, Arthur Leslie 84. Halifax, formerly of Ottawa and Montreal, died suddenly September 6, 1999, in hospital. Born in Vancouver, B.C., he was the youngest son of the late Rev. and Mrs. E. Leslie Pidgeon, Montreal. A McGill B.A. honours history, led to a Rhodes Scholarship, held at New College, Oxford 1938-1940. Joining the CBC in 1940, from 1942-47 he served as Lieutenant, RCNVR, in the Canadian Naval Historical Section. He then returned to the International Service of the CBC in a variety of policy and administrative roles, until his 1979 retirement, following 10 years as manager of the Ottawa office of Radio Canada International. He was predeceased by wife, Barbara Rochester Plaskett; and sister Marion (Pidgeon) Home. He is survived by a brother, Dr. Lloyd Montgomery Pidgeon, Kingston, Ont., daughters, Barbara Edith Frorath, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Deborah Anne Tilley and husband Alexander, Halifax, grandchildren Michelle (Tilley) Pottie and husband Michael, Leslie Tilley, all of Halifax, Jessica Tilley, Burnaby, B.C., Glenn Frorath and wife Jenni, Tampa, Fla., and Shawn and Mackenzie Frorath, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, September 10, in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Windsor St., Halifax. Rev. Arlene Riches officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
