Augustina BRUCE

(Bruce) Ina Thompson, surrounded by her family, passed away on April 14, 2002, after a determined 16 year battle with cancer. Ina was born in Shawinigan, Quebec on March 27, 1936 and moved to Deep River with her parents Tom and Augustine Bruce in 1949. Ina went to High School in Pembroke and graduated from the Ottawa Civic Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1957. Ina married Vic Thompson in 1958 and moved back to Deep River in 1960. In addition to her nursing duties, Ina was very active in a number of family run businesses including Deep River Stationery and Gift Shop (1969-1997), Toy Town (1970-1975), Sears Catalogue outlet (1971-1993), Bookworld (1977-1993), The Tannery Shoe Shop (1982-1992), The Strand Realty Company (1985-present). In addition, Ina was a very active member of the community and served as a member and former President of the Deep River Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and as a volunteer at the Pt. Alexander Library. Ina leaves behind her devoted husband, Vic, her three children David and his wife Janice Francisco of Ottawa, Linda of Iroquois and Kathy of Toronto and her two cherished grandchildren Jonathan and Nicholas. Also survived by her daughter-in-law, Shelly Ostep of Deep River. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Deep River, on Saturday, April 20 at 2:00 p.m. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Deep River and District Hospital are appreciated.
