Peter Klaus Lust January 15, 1911 - October 28, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Salon Funéraire Rideau / Rideau Funeral Home He was born January 15, 1911 in Nurnberg, Germany. He made Canada his home since 1946. He was an accomplished writer, as well as, a humanitarian. He dedicated much of his life to exposing inhumanity – particularly to helpless animals. His book “The Last Seal Pup” (Harvest House, 1967) won wide acclaim and was a first of its kind, exposing the cruel practices employed in the baby seal hunt in Canada. The book, in addition to winning him the Québec Literary Prize, caused a change in how the seal hunt was carried out. He had a razor-sharp wit, and unique sense of humour. Peter Lust passed away in Montréal on October 28, 2005 at the age of 94 after a very long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Beloved husband of the late Evelyn Heymansohn. He is survived by his children Arthur, Peter Jr. (Ruth), Patricia, and his grandchildren Amber, Nikolas, Robbie, Alex, Mathew, and Elizabeth. The visitation will take place at the Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd., Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Montréal (514-685-3344), on Wednesday, November 2 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. The service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, November 3 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ottawa Humane Society (613-725-3166 ext.268) or the Montréal SPCA, in his name for having dedicated most of his life to the protection of animals.
