Frank Planeta, Kapuskasing, died at Sensenbrenner Hospital on Jan. 11, 2003. He was 86 years-old. Mr. Planeta was born in Apolda, Germany on Feb. 4, 1916. He arrived in Canada in 1951 and has been a resident of Kapuskasing for more than 40 years. He worked as a lumberjack for Spruce Falls for many years and one of his favourite pastimes was fishing. Mr. Planeta was predeceased by his parents Anna (née Barvineck) and Franz Planeta of Poland and his brother Bronek. He is survived by sisters Maria (Yves) Melou of France, Stacha Adamska (and her three children) and Aniela Ratajsczak (and her three children), both of Poland; nephew Guy (Bernadette) Melou of Fall Church, Virginia and niece Anne (Patrick) Stahl of Monaco. A funeral service was held in the chapel of the Génier-Thomson Funeral Home, Jan. 16, 2003 with Father Robert Tremblay directing. Mr. Planeta was cremated at the Hillcrest Crematorium in Matheson and interment of the ashes will take place in Poland at a later date.
