Roy A. MARTIN

MARTIN, Roy, A. - April 23, 1912 - March 21, 2003 - At the Au Château Home for the Aged, on Friday, March 21, 2003, in his 91st year. Survived by his dear wife and partner for 67 years, Frances (née Laflèche). Loving father of Margaret (Claude Lalonde) and Jack D. Martin (Jane deceased). Dear grandfather of Micheline (Terry Trottier), Marc Lalonde (Joan, deceased), Robert Lalonde (Maria), Kendra Jill Forest (Alain) and Jason D. Martin (fiancée Anne Kirik), and great-grandfather of Stéphanie, Taylor, Bailey, Danielle, Corey, Joey and Alexandria. Predeceased by his parents, Captain J.E.S. Martin and Margaret Martin (née Simpson) and by one sister, Helen Reavely (Stan, deceased). Mr. Martin was a life member of the Sturgeon Falls Masonic Lodge No. 447, which in May 20, 2003, would have been a member for 70 years. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Temple in Reno, Nevada. He was a life member of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), from whom he was presented with a certificate of award for a lifetime of Prospecting Excellence on March 30, 1992. It was in March 1999, that Mr. Martin was presented with a special achievement award for his long term service & dedication to the Mining Industry for discoveries in Canada, U.S.A., Mexico and Australia. He was presented with a permanent Prospectors Licence from the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development & Mines. Mr. Martin was as well a member of the Canadian Institute of Mining (C.I.M.) and a member of (COPA) Canadian Owners & Pilots’ Association of Canada during which time he had owned and piloted three aircrafts with over 10,000 hours of flying to his credit. Roy and Frances had lived in many countries such as, Canada, United States, Mexico and Australia, which allowed them to travel around the world five times, visiting more than 70 countries; many of them more than once. He often told many wonderful stories of his travels and adventures; one of his favourite sayings was "get a job you like then it becomes fun and you won’t mind to do the work". He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends around the world. His family gratefully thanks Sue Moon and the staff at Au Château for the loving care he received. As per his wishes, he will be cremated and a private service will take place at a later date to celebrate his life.
