1920-2008 Miramichi - Wathen (Watt) Hesketh McLenaghan, husband of Elizabeth (Sadie) (Watling) McLenaghan, of Auburnville, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at the age of 88. Born in Auburnville on June 27, 1920, he was the son of the late Wathen and Margaret (Williston) McLenaghan. He was a farmer and fisherman. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Bay du Vin. He was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3, Chatham. He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth (Sadie) Watling; two daughters, Jane Chapman (James Brown) of Miramichi and Audrey Gulliver (George) of Auburnville; three sons, Robert (Christina) of Centre Napan, John (Gail) of Pincher Creek, Alberta, and Roy (Judy) of Black River Bridge; one sister, Laura Fowlie of Little Branch; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marjorie Gibson and Janie McLenaghan; six brothers, Arthur, Lee Roy, Gordon, Lawrence, James, and Walter McLenaghan; two grandchildren, Tanya McLenaghan and Natalie Chapman. At Wathen's request, there was no visitation at the funeral home. A memorial service was held at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 2 pm, conducted by Reverend Richard Steeves and assisted by Captain Rose Steeves. The music for the service was supplied by Dawn Bell and the hymns were "Forever with the Lord", "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", and "Last Mile of the Way". A reading was offered by Cindy Kingston. Family memories and a special poem were recited by his grandchildren. The honorary pallbearers were Lawrence Gibson, Aubrey Gibson, Gary McLenaghan, and Albert Fowlie. Interment was in the St. John the Evangelist Cemetery.
