Commander RCN (Ret'd) Peacefully in hospital after a courageous battle, surrounded by his loving family on Monday March 17th, 2003 at the age of 79. Beloved husband and very best friend of Veronica "Vonie" (nee Johnston) for 52 years. Dearly loved father of Jocelyn (David Hagerman) and Colette (Don Morin). Predeceased by his daughter Gillian in 1985. Cherished Grandpa of Jonathan. He was very proud of his naval roots and of his beloved family. He had a quiet air of dignity, a strong sense of duty and was a gentleman to the very end. He will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank Drs. Kronick and Oliver, the nurses of Ward 4A and the ICU of the Queensway Carleton Hospital for the wonderful care given. A special thank you to Aimee, April, Cindy, Lori, Tefari and Theresa for their support. They are a tribute to their profession. Friends may visit at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road at Albion Road on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. donations to The Lung Association or the Queensway Carleton Hospital Renovation Fund would be appreciated by the family.
