Wallace August KLAGES

In hospital December 21st, 2003 after a brave fight with pulmonary fibrosis. Born 15 July 1913, Toronto, Ontario. Educated in Marmion, Sullivan Township, graduated from Chesley High School in 1932 and Ontario Teachers College, Stratford, Ont. Wallace taught grades 1 to 10 for four years in Ontario. He enlisted in the RCAF in April 1941, served overseas RAF #153 Nightfighter Squadron in Ireland and with the British North Africa Forces and was discharged in 1945. Wallace had a long career as editor & technical writer in the Federal Public Service, Department of Transport, National Defence, National Revenue, External Affairs, Queens Printer & Treasury Board Secretariat before retiring in 1974. He leaves his beloved wife of 57 years Lois McConnell and cherished family, son Warren (Jean) of Ottawa Ont, granddaughter Krista (Robert) Lang; & great-grandson Grayson; Shawville, P.Q.; sister Violet (Stan) Evans of Brandon, Man.; brother Murray (Helen) of Bozeman, Montanna, many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his parents Henry Klages and Lili Anna Schreiber and two sisters Beulah (Ernest) Brigham; Irene (James) Stinson. Wallace was an avid reader, enthusiastic nature conservancy and outdoors lover, which included hiking, bird watching, woodworking, historical research, hunting & fishing. He was indoor sporting rifle champion Federal Public Service Recreational Assoc. 1963; named Conservation Man-of-the-Year 1964. A Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #91; Life Member of the Tillicum & Veterans Care Society, Life Member of Ontario Federation for Cerebral Palsied; Member of 800 Wing RCAF Association; Federal Superannuates; a Past Pres. of the Juan de Fuca Sr. Citizens Assoc.; a member of the Goldstream Museum Society and a Past Cub Scout Leader in Ottawa. Many thanks to everyone for their expressions of kindness and support. Funeral services will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 911 Jenkins Ave, (Corner Jacklin) in Langford, on Saturday December 27th at 11 a.m. Pastor Philip Washeim officiating.
