Glenn Somerville, 74 Glenn Somerville, a retired farmer and resident of Edwardsburgh, died suddenly at home May 13, 2005. He was born March 26, 1931 in the Township of Edwardsburgh to Ernest Somerville and the former Bella Logan. He was the third eldest of seven brothers and sisters. Upon his marriage to Glenna (Ault) in Jan. 1954, he inherited the Somerville farm on Buckwheat Road, where he resided until he retired from dairy farming and built a new home in Shanly. Together, they had three daughters: Karen (Alan Greenberg), Sandra (Sheldon Cook) and Cindy (Jim Giroux) as well as three grandsons, William Cook, Matthew Cook and Christopher Giroux. Prior to married life and farming, he worked for Ontario Hydro. Mr. Somerville was a proud member of the Nation Masonic Lodge, which he joined in 1959 and was a life member of the Grand Lodge of AF and AM of Canada. He was also a member of the Spencerville Fair Board and the Spencerville-Roebuck United Church. After retiring from farming, he worked for Bazaar Novelty where he travelled from Spencerville east to Cornwall, west of Belleville and north to Barry's Bay doing deliveries to bingo halls. As the saying goes, you can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy. After Glenna passed away in 1991, he started to visit Roebuck more frequently where he leased land, and on Oct. 1, 1994, he married Velma Morton. Mr. Somerville then became a father to Susan (Abraham teGrotenhuis), Sheila Pease, Heather Poole and Donald Morton (Laurie McCuaig) and a grandfather to Jessica Poole, Katrina and Heidi teGrotenhuis and Shaela and Wylie Morton. He and Velma started farming all over again, but this time it was beef cattle. Beef farming didn't keep him busy enough, so he did custom work for other farmers. In his spare time, he loved playing cards, going to dances and organizing an annual Chinese dinner for the community. Friends and family called at the Grant Brown Funeral Home on May 15, and the funeral service was held at Roebuck United Church on May 16. Reverend Meade Baldwin officiated. Pallbearers were Allan Somerville, Stan Linnen, Stan Hall, Donald Morton, William Cook and Matthew Cook. Honourary pallbearers were Joe Hopkins, Stan Farrell, Doug Cook and Bob Bailey. Memorial donations were directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Roebuck United Church.
