WOOD, Janet Margaret The Wood family regrets to announce the death of Janet Wood on September 7, 2006 at the Lakeshore General Hospital. Predeceased by parents John Norris Wood and Christine Margaret Petersen. Janet is mourned by her dear brothers John (Jack) and his wife Doris of Oakville, Ontario and David (Sailor) of Ottawa, and her nieces Kathleen (Ottawa), Heather (Oakville) and Andrea (Germany) and her nephew Timmy (Oakville). She was the great aunt to Talita, Tiria, Simeon, and Esra James, all of Germany. The family wishes to thank the staff of Vigi-Sante, DDO, 3rd floor, and the 4th Floor North of the Lakeshore General Hospital for their dedicated and compassionate care. Special thanks also to Adriana Kruczowyj, and John Griffin for helping Janet achieve and maintain a high level of independence during her last two years. Also, a big thanks to all her friends whose visits meant so much. Special thanks to Sheila O'Neill, who was Janet's dear friend and a great help to her family in their time of need. Born in Cowansville, Janet studied Nursing at the Montreal General Hospital School of Nursing and McGill University. Following her experience as a Clinical Nurse Educator at MGH, Janet joined the John Abbott College Department of Nursing, where she taught for 25 years. During that time she spent several years as Coordinator for the innovative "James Bay Nursing Project" which eventually grew into The Cree Student Support Service. This work entailed a number of trips to Cree communities in Northern Quebec, experiences that Janet loved. Colleagues and students all appreciated her commitment to excellence, her humour, and her "firm but fair" approach. Upon retirement, Janet was able to spend time developing her talent for photography, practice fly-fishing techniques, indulge in her love of jazz, literature, and film, and spoil her two cats, Loki and Othello. A Charter Member of "The Most Excellent Society of Pigs", Janet contributed greatly to the fun, frolic, and gastronomic adventure of their periodic meetings, as well as to their welfare in time of crisis. She will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Association des Benevoles C.H.S.L.D., 197 Thornhill, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, H9B 3H8. A reception to celebrate Janet's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2006 at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, 222, autoroute 20 (North Service Road) (access via Cartier Ave., on Salisbury Rd.) in Pointe-Claire.
