OBITUARY GERALD HEFFERNAN Gerry passed away peacefully in Moraga, California on January 16, 2007 in his ninety-first year. Born in Montreal in 1916, Gerry was a gifted athlete. He went to England to play hockey before the war and met Kathleen (Kit) Duggan who followed him back to Canada where they were married in 1940. Gerry played for the Montreal Canadians in the NHL on a line known as the Razzle Dazzle Line with Pete Morin and Hall of Famer Buddy O'Conner. The trio helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 1944. After hockey, Gerry became a successful insurance broker in Montreal. He and Kit visited Great Britain every summer for 40 years where he managed to play over 500 golf courses. For many years Gerry was an active member of Summerlea and the Royal Montreal Golf Club. He and Kit moved to California in 1975 to be close to their son Dan and to find better golf weather. In California, Gerry played hockey until he was into his seventies in the annual Snoopy Senior Hockey Tournament in Santa Rosa. He continued to skate at local arenas until he was eighty-five. In 2005, the Hockey Hall of Fame arranged to bring the Stanley Cup to his home in Moraga. It was a very special afternoon for Gerry and his family and friends. Gerry is survived by his son, Dan, his daughter-in-law Barbara (nee Bennett) and his granddaughter Annie all of San Francisco. His other son Terry predeceased him in 1997. His wife, Kit predeceased him in 1994. Gerry was forever a gentleman in the truest sense of the word, a kind and generous person who embodied the terms dignity and class. Published in the Montreal Gazette from 1/18/2007 - 1/20/2007
