John Allister MACDONALD

MacDONALD, John Allister April 13, 1934 - November 24, 2006 After a remarkable recovery from emergency surgery, John passed away unexpectedly on November 24, 2006. John is survived by his children, Susan, Robert (Andrea), John and Kathryn; as well as his grandchildren, Jennifer, Brian, Riley and Riain. John was predeceased by his wife Joan, who passed away only three months earlier. John was born in Louisbourg, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. After graduating from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, he heard the call of "Go West young man!" and ended up more "North" than "West", working on seismic crews. John then spent the next thirty-eight years hunting for black gold around the globe, as a Geophysicist with Mobil Oil. John was a person who touched the lives of all he met. He was a humble man, well known for his incredible generosity and kindness. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Foothills Hospital Intensive Care Unit who worked tirelessly on John's recovery. A Service of Remembrance for this "gentle giant" will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Friday, December 1, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with Interment to follow at Canmore Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, Second Floor, 215 - 12 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 1A2.
