Peter McKay It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Peter McKay. Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Peter passed away on Sunday, July 29th, 2007 at the Grace Hospital, in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 64 years. We will miss him dearly and we will always cherish his memory. He resided at Manto Sipi Cree Nation, Manitoba. He was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing and worked as a guide at God’s Lake during the fishing season. He loved music and he loved to play the fiddle. He is survived by his ex-wife, Shirley McKay; son, Morris Flett; stepson, Wayne Okemow; stepdaughter,Stephanie White (Jeff); brother, John Robert Yellowback (Sarah); sisters, Caroline Hastings (Jock), Esola James (Demus), Rhonda Ross and Valerie McKay; auntie, Sophola Yellowback; uncle, Rod Hill, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred McKay and Effie McKay-Spence; stepfather, Geordie Houle-Spence; sisters, Margaret Okemow, Rose Okemow and Audrey James; brother in laws, Alex Okemow, Carl Okemow and Simon Hastings; grandparents, James and Emma Hill; uncles, Elias Yellowback, Elias Hill and John Hill who just passed away on July 31, 2007; aunties, Ila Hill and Margaret Hill; nephews, Larry James, Delmar James and Carl Okemow Jr.; stepson, Billy McKay; cousins, Augie Tony Yellowback, William Hill, Jimmy Hill, Sydney Hill, Mark Hill, Harvey Hill, Betsy Hill and Linda Hastings, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Prayers and viewing were held on Wednesday, August 1st, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. at Aboriginal Funeral Chapel (724 Selkirk Avenue). Wake services to be held on Thursday, August 2nd and Friday, August 3rd, 2007 at the residence of Rhonda Ross in God’s River, Manitoba. Funeral services to be held on Saturday, August 4th, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the God’s River Community Hall, with Reverend Hilda Perch officiating. Interment to follow at God’s River Cemetery.
