Douglas George Conroy passed away peacefully at the Temiskaming Hospital on November 21, 2007 with his loving family by his side. Doug was born May 12, 1941 in First Brook Township to Howard and Frances Conroy. Doug is survived by Sheila, his devoted wife of 41 years; son Rob and wife Lisa; daughter Sherry and husband Rick Rimkey; granddaughters Karley and Jenna Rimkey of Orillia; Alexis Conroy and grandson Nolan Conroy of Dawson Creek, British Columbia; sisters Joyce Manners, Inez Jonason, Frances Woods and husband Russell; Gwen Fredericks and husband Bill. Doug also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Howard and Frances Conroy; brother Ronald; sister Laura Anderson; and nephews Eddy Degagner and Danny Jonason. Doug lived his life with passion and humour. He loved to fish, camp (which included searching for new lakes on his four-wheeler), cook, bake and read. The most important part of Doug’s life was his enormous amount of love and respect for his wife, children, grandchildren and friends, with whom he shared all of these favourite pastimes. Doug began working for Len Wilson in 1960 and after a time became parts manager at Wilson Chevrolet Oldsmobile until he retired in 2002. After retiring, Doug enjoyed spending time with the children in Sheila’s daycare and it was not unusual for Doug to read stories, cook for them and even take them for drives and fishing. Doug was well known for his compassion and generosity in helping anyone who was in need. He was always someone you could count on. Doug will be loved and cherished always, and sadly missed by all his family and friends. Donations to Camp Quality would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were made by Perrin Funeral Chapel, with a memorial service conducted by Captain Deris Fillier. Special thanks to John Wilson and son-in-law Rick Rimkey for eulogies and a reading by niece Angie Durling. Sincere thanks to the Temiskaming Hospital staff and Doctor Glen Corneil, with special thanks to Dr. Tom McDermott and Gail. Many thanks to everyone who gave food, flowers and donations, and for their moral support and also to those who travelled from out of town.
