JUDGE, Shirley Ann 22 Sept 1938 - 4 Feb 2008 Sadly, Shirley has passed from this life, leaving behind her partner of 38 years, Henry Homonick, sisters in England, Jennie (Jennifer) Rogers and Charlie (Charmian) Owler, and many, many friends. Shirley was a wonderful woman, partner, friend, and confidante who was non-judgemental and inspired others to believe in themselves. Born in Surrey, England, Shirley completed her social work degree at Bristol after which she worked in adoption and child protection in Nottingham. She immigrated to Canada in 1963, and worked in various social agencies and hospitals in Ottawa, finally retiring from Carleton University where she taught in the School of Social Work. Her teaching was always from a feminist perspective. She was especially proud of her work as student practicum coordinator. Shirley and Henry wish to thank the medical/nursing/administrative staff at the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre and the various agencies providing end-of-life support. Donations in memory of Shirley should be targeted at feminist organisations such as Amethyst Women's Addiction Centre, Nelson House of Ottawa Carleton, and Lanark County Interval House. Alternatively, Shirley's colleagues have established a bursary in her name at Carleton University "The Shirley Judge Bursary", which will provide financial aid to social work students during their practicum. Contributions may be made on-line at: www.carleton.ca/giving . A Memorial Service is to be held at the First Unitarian church, 30 Cleary Ave., Ottawa on Saturday, February 16 at 10 a.m. Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 2/7/2008 - 2/8/2008
