ARAB (Byers), Betty Elizabeth L. "Girlfriend" "Betty Boop" ARAB (Byers), Betty Elizabeth L. "Girlfriend" "Betty Boop" - Halifax, passed away on February 26, 2008, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre after a very courageous battle with cancer. Born in Africville, she was a daughter of Aubrey Cain and the late Wilhelmina "Lully" (Dixon) Byers. Betty was an active member of the Army & Navy Dart Team. She worked at Northwood Manor for nearly 20 years. Betty was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and loved the Lord dearly. She enjoyed life, laughter and people. Her favourite saying were "girlfriend, hey and boo". Betty enjoyed bingo. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, vivacious attire - the Real Deal (Diva), amazing positive outlook on life and her strong faith in the Lord. We will miss her easygoing, friendly and generous personality. Betty left a positive impact on everyone that she was around. She is survived by daughter, Wanda (Paul), Halifax; sons, Robert and Ricky, both of Halifax; sisters, Kathy Burke, New York; Geneva "Dubodee" Ware (Reggie), New York; Diane Cain-Harding, North Carolina; Marlene "Cass" Cassidy, Rose Cassidy, Paula Cassidy, Joyce Watson, all of Halifax; brothers, Kenneth "Dunks" Cassidy, Halifax; Myles (Adrien) Cassidy, Kevin, both of Toronto; Cyril (Donna) Cassidy, Halifax; James Cassidy, Riverport; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, godchildren; best friends, Bam Bam and Pebbles. She was predeceased by birth mother, Leona "Dyday" Cassidy, and brother, Robert Cassidy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jeneen Williams and T.K. Barnard Funeral Home Ltd. Visitation Sunday, March 2, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the funeral home, 3460 Dutch Village Rd., Halifax. Funeral service 1 p.m. Monday, March 3, in Emmanuel Baptist Church, 633 Pockwock Rd., Upper Hammonds Plains, with Rev. Dr. Lennett Anderson officiating, assisted by Rev. Carl Price. Interment will be in Oakridge Memory Gardens, 1078 Old Sackville Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Emmanuel Baptist Church Building Fund.
