METE Filippo Mete passed away peacefully after a long illness with his family by his side at McMaster Hospital, Hamilton on Thursday, February 7, 2008 in his 66th year. Beloved husband of Giovanna (nee Marchio) for 44 years. Cherished only son of Rosina Strangis of Welland. Loving father of Frank (Heather), Agi (Nadia) and Nick. Proud Nonno of Matt, Talia, Noah, Emma,Olivia and Alissa Mete. Predeceased by his father Francesco Mete and stepfather Agostino Strangis. He immigrated to Canada from Lamezia Terme, Calabria Italy in 1964 and settled in Welland where he lived the rest of his life. A devoted family man and friend, he was always eager to express his Italian heritage and Azzuri pride. Filippo worked at Wabasso Ltd. for most of his working years. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and a member of St. Anthony's Society and the Sons of Italy Casa Dante Lodge. Filippo will be sorely missed by his many friends and extended family. The family will receive their friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence 19 Young Street, Welland on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where a Vigil will be held on Saturday at 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Rite of Committal will follow at Pleasantview Mausoleum.
