DOHERTY, Joe B.E.M. - Peacefully on Friday February 8, 2008 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital in his 90th year. Beloved husband of the late Mary (2004). Loving father of Jim (the late Angela 2006) and Brian (Mavis). Devoted grandfather of Kathryn (Michael), Allison, Carolyn, Elizabeth and Susan. Very proud great- grandfather of Jessica, Rhodes and Neve. Predeceased by his brother James who was killed in action in Italy and his sister Sarah. Joe was a WWII veteran earning the British Empire Medal. He served overseas for 3 and a half years in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. For 40 years Joe operated the Red and White Grocery Store in Chippawa. He was a well respected businessman. During his time in business, he was kind and compassionate helping many people over the years. Special thanks are extended to the staff at GNGH on the Trillium Unit and Unit C especially Dr. Chan and Dr. Wilczynski and staff, to Cathy and Lisa for Dad's care in the outpatient department and to Rev. Janet Cashin for her visits. Joe's family will receive friends at the MORSE & SON CHAPEL of the MORGAN FUNERAL HOMES 5917 Main Street, on Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m. casual attire would be appreciated by the family. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday at Holy Trinity Church Cemetery in Chippawa with the Rev. Janet Cashin officiating.
