James FILDES

James “Jim” Fildes of Cobalt died January 8, 2008 at the Temiskaming Hospital at the age of 81. Mr. Fildes was born in Cobalt on May 20, 1926 and had worked for the Town of Cobalt for 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing at Lady Evelyn Lake. Mr. Fildes enjoyed reading and had quite a large collection of Western novels. He was an accomplished woodworker and was very proud to have built his family home. He will be remembered as a devoted family man and will be sadly missed. He was predeceased by his parents John and Ethel (née Richards) Fildes, his daughter-in-law Debra, two grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. Mr. Fildes is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia (née Slater); children Linda (and Dale) Johnston of Yellowknife, NWT, William (and Lucy) Fildes of Prince George, B, C., Jeff (and Barb) Fildes of Cobalt, Gary (and Deborah) Fildes of Azilda and Beth (and Curt) Arthur of North Bay; 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at St. James Anglican Church in Cobalt on January 12. Reverend Linda White officiated.
