CANON OSWALD SULLIVAN 1911 - 2008 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rev. Canon Oswald Sullivan on May 22, 2008 at the Ignace Bourget residence, Montreal, at the age of ninety-six. He was born in Outremont on September 7, 1911, son of John A. Sullivan and Corinne Bourgouin, one of five children, the late John, the late Gerald, the late Roger and Francoise Sullivan. He leave to mourn many nieces, nephews and friends. Father grew up in Montreal and studied at Loyola and Le Grand Seminaire. He was ordained a priest on December 17, 1938 and would have celebrated his seventieth anniversary as a priest this year. He served as a curate at St. Dominic and St. Thomas More parishes and in 1957 was asked to establish Holy Family Parish in Deux Montagnes to serve four English-speaking communities. The planning and construction of Holy Family bears witness to his understanding of the needs of the families whom he served for twenty-nine years. Upon his retirement, he took up residence at Holy Name of Jesus Parish (Laval), where he continued his priestly functions, his involvement with the children at Terry Fox School and the church and school at St. Philip Neri Mission. As he was actively involved in the sporting pursuits of hockey and tennis, he was similarly involved in his ministry. Most of all, Father will be remembered for his availability and especially for the sense of holiness that emanated from him. In lieu of flowers, Mass intentions would be appreciated. Visitation will be held at the Guay Funeral Home, 1004 Oka Road, Deux Montagnes, on Monday, May 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, May 27 from 9 a.m. The Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday May 27, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 1001 Oka Road. Interment will follow at the St. Agapit cemetery. Published in the Montreal Gazette on 5/24/2008
