Wallace Holmes CHILD

CHILD, Wallace "Wally" Holmes August 16, 1912 - May 23, 2008 Wallace "Wally" Child of Calgary, passed away at the Rosedale Hospice at 4:20 p.m., on Friday, May 23, 2008 at the age of 95 years. Wally was born in Woodstock, Connecticut on August 16, 1912. He attended Woodstock Academy and Rollins College in Florida. He then hitchhiked to California where he met and married an Orange County girl named Janet Agnes McKinstry, in 1939. They settled in Fullerton, California and spent the next fifty-eight years raising children and grandchildren in the home they built together. Wally was active in the Lions Club and spent the majority of his time outside doing what he loved: golfing and gardening. In 1997, Wally and Aggie moved to Calgary and became residents of Dana Village. Aggie died in 1998 at the age of 87 years. Wally remained in excellent health through his 95th birthday. He particularly enjoyed playing golf, poker and pool with many good friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his enduring interest in sports, and his unforgettable "Wally-like-charm" which touched all those who knew him. Wally will be missed greatly by a daughter and son-in-law, Kitty and Scott Raymond; granddaughters, Jennifer Raymond-Bhatt and her husband, Anjan, Caroline "Kelly" Agnes Raymond; great-granddaughters, Lola and Saffron Raymond-Bhatt; nephews, Fred Child and Steve Child, both of Woodstock, Connecticut; and niece, Billie Lou Latva of Lake Arrowhead, California. He will also be mourned by his many good friends at Dana Village, particularly Marjory Marsh, his close friend and companion during the last ten years.
