BOND, Richard Albert Norris "Dick" October 28, 1921 - November 26, 2007 Richard Bond, beloved husband of Lois of Calgary, passed away on November 26, 2007 at the age of 86 years. Dick Bond was a native Calgarian, the grandson of pioneers in the Bearspaw (Glendale) district. He was a student at McDougal Elementary and Central Collegiate Institute. During WWII, he served in the RCAF. After graduating as a podiatrist from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in December of 1948, Dick dedicated himself to his thriving podiatry practice in Calgary. He volunteered his time providing foot care and comfort at various nursing homes. His hand-made personal orthotics made it possible for his many patients to continue walking without pain. Dick will be fondly remembered by his patients and colleagues for his skill, humour, compassion, and kindness. He regretfully retired in 1991. He was a past president of the Alberta Podiatry Association. As an elder at both Knox United Church and later Valleyview Presbyterian Church, Dick was active in many church projects over the years, including the building of the Valleyview Presbyterian Church. He dedicated his life to his family, his profession and his church. He loved music, and his other activities included curling, golf, bridge, snooker, and oil painting. An avid gardener, he passionately created beauty around his Elbow View home by planting trees and flowers in spite of rocky terrain and limited water. Dick relished quiet times at the family cabin at Ghost Lake, a place for puttering, family gatherings, and snoozes on the sun porch. He enjoyed boating on the icy waters, and the magnificent views. As a resident of the Colonel Belcher Care Centre for the past five years, Dick became well known and loved by the wonderful staff. He always had a smile and a kind thank you. The family greatly appreciates the loving care provided by the staff over the years. The family is extremely grateful for the loving dedication of his personal caregiver, Norma Lougheed, who met his every need for many years. His children wish to express their gratitude to his wife Lois for her faithful care and dedication, making his life so rich and full in their years together. Dick was predeceased by his dear wife of fifty-one years and the mother of his five children, Margaret Helen Bond (1993), by his brother, Kenneth Leon Bond (2006), and his nephew, Gregory Bond (1989). Survived by his loving wife of eleven years, Lois Bond (Eastman, nee Turriff); and his children, Carolyn, Stephen (Catherine), Barbara, Beth (Brook), Doug (Linda), and stepdaughter, Jane (David); and by sixteen grandchildren, Tim, Michael, Megan, Richard, Angela, Paul, Christine, Stephen, Guy, Evan, Lila, Jessica, Drew, Reed, Travis, and Melissa; and by nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his cousins Phil, Bob, and Sid Norris, Ellen Buckler, and his sister-in-law Ruth Bond and niece, Beverly.
