MUNDT, Helmuth Carl Franz Fredrick (Hank) Helmuth passed away peacefully Monday, July 7, 2008 at the age of 79 after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Norma, daughter Ingrid (Clarence), sons Edwin, Carl (Tammy), all of Calgary, and Gerhard (Barbro) of Norway. Helmuth also leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren, and brothers Gunther and Horst (Elfrieda) of Germany. Born April 6, 1929 in Frankfurt am-Main, Germany, Helmuth survived the loss of his parents at a young age, later joining the United States Army as a Radio Operator where he rose to the rank of Corporal before immigrating to Canada in 1953. He quickly embraced Canadian life, graduating with honours from SAIT (then the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art) to become a well-respected master craftsman in Calgary's construction industry. Helmuth was resolute in his wish for family life, marrying Norma in 1961 and raising four children. He was blessed to have a loving extended family in his adopted Canada, and in 1995, was thrilled to reunite with his long-lost brothers in Germany. Helmuth had a passion for colour and sought to brighten the world in his work and in his love of gardening. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 12 at Heritage Funeral Home, 1708 - 16 Avenue N.W. at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations in Helmuth's memory be made to children's charities. Published in the Calgary Herald from 7/8/2008 - 7/10/2008.
