KURY, Josef Joe left us peacefully on March 26, 2008 after an evening with family and friends, to be reunited with his beloved wife Aloisia, who he has longed for since her passing in 1990. Born in Potschach, Kaernten, Austria on February 15, 1925 the second of three boys, Joe came to work on his uncle's farm in Vega, Alberta in July 1953. Aloisia and their son joined him later that year and they were wed in December. After working in a logging camp that winter, Joe moved his family to Calgary where he worked at Canada Packers until his retirement in 1986. The family grew with the births of three daughters. Throughout the years Joe and Aloisia enjoyed the company of their many friends with whom they visited, sang and played cards and camped. Joe was a kind, friendly and socially conscious man who could be counted on to help on any project on the go. He was a generous host who loved company, sharing conversation, song, humour and debate. Joe enjoyed nature and was a keen observer, a patient fisherman and an outdoorsman. He took pride in his gardens and the legacy of his apple trees can be found about the city. His sausages, smoked meat, pork roasts and traditional Austrian meals were legendary. Sadly, a stroke in 2004 took Joe's speech, but he never lost the sparkle in his blue eyes and his big warm smile. Joe will be missed by his children Joe (Debbie), Christine (Leo), Evelyn (Ken) and Carolyn (Francisco) and grandchildren Karl, Melissa, Nicole (Jerry), Christopher, Michael, Eloisa and Emiliana, as well as family and friends here and in Austria. The family wishes to thank the friendly and caring staff at Sunnyhill and Brentwood Care Centre. Services will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home, 17 Avenue S.E. at Garden Road, on Tuesday, April 1 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta.
