STURDY, Walter Philmore (Phil) - Passed away peacefully at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. Loving father of Daniel Torok, Elizabeth (Wayne) Hodgson and Nancy Paone. Papa will be sadly missed by his grandchildren: Tania (Ron) Badr, Joseph (Laura Hale) Grifa, Dina (Sean Hannaway) Paone, Patrick (Brianne Jackson) Paone, Linda (Peter) Lang, Danny (Jessica) Torok, Kelsey Torok, Nathaniel Torok and Michael Badr. Will be remembered fondly by Christopher (Dr. Nicole) Hodgson, Charlotte (Greg Tremble) Hodgson and Jennifer (Damien Smith) Hodgson and children; Grace, Holla, Briar and Baily Smith and Matthew and Ava Hodgson. Phil will be dearly missed by his friend and companion, Rose Gillan and her family. Walter was born March 11, 1925 in Goderich, Ontario, he was predeceased by his loving wife Betty (Bell)(1986); his father, Howard (1972); mother Ethel (Straughan)(1986) and his brother Christopher (1958). Phil was a marine engineer and sailed on great lake ships from 1942 until he joined the St. Lawrence Seaway Authority in September 1964. He retired from the Seaway in 1990. He was a member of the Canadian Corp Unit 44 and the Thorold Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. For their care and support over the past few years, many thanks to March of Dimes, CCAC, Dr. Tatzel and Irene Whiteside. A very special thank you to Rose Gillan and family. The family will receive friends at the HAMMOND FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold on Thursday, July 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 17 will hold a Memorial Service at the funeral home on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, July 18 at 11 a.m. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Thorold. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. 11167683
