JEWETT, Ruth 2008-08-04 The family of Mrs. Ruth Jewett announces with great sorrow her unexpected passing on August 1, 2008. Born May 17, 1926 in Fort Frances, Ontario to Harvey and Dagney Zimmerman, Ruth was the youngest of four children. On April 21, 1944 she was united in marriage to Ivan Jewett and was a devoted wife for 63 years. Ruth started her career at the Fort Frances Times and in 1961 she was successful in obtaining a position with the Unemployment Insurance Commission, quite an accomplishment in those days. In 1966 she transferred with the Federal Government and the family moved to Thunder Bay. While raising her family, she diligently studied and was successful in job competitions attaining the level of Insurance Adjudicator, from which she proudly retired in 1986. Caring for her family, flower gardening and curling were Ruth‘s passions. In her post-retirement years she also enjoyed camping and travelling with her husband and spending quality time with her family. Ruth was a vibrant and personable lady, a wonderful mother to four children, and a loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her children Margaret (Bill) Roeder of International Falls, Minnesota, Marilyn (Mark) Smith, Dean, and Donna (Dennis) Harman; grandchildren Barb (Rod) Shaw, Robbie (Becky) Roeder, Teresa (Dan) Wimmer, Joslyn (Geoff) MacGillivray, Tyler Smith, Emily Yantz, Erin, Christina, Danielle and Renee Graves and her great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister Mary Rosen of Richmond, BC; brother Robert Zimmerman of Denver, Co; and sister-in-law Evelyn Gray of Humboldt, SK. and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive. Predeceased by her loving husband Ivan, her parents, brother George Zimmerman, nephew Arthur Zimmerman, sisters-in-law Virginia and Char Zimmerman, brother-in-law News Rosen and spousal in-laws. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Ruth Jewett will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore St. at James. With Rev. Jeanne Bryan officiating. Private family interment will take place in Stanley Hill Cemetery at a later date.
