BLAIN, Mary (nee Brosko) - 1921-2008 - It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Mary Blain (nee Brosko), beloved widow of Paul Blain (deceased 1989). An esteemed Mom, Gran, and “GiGi“ (Great- Gran), Mary was loved and will be sadly missed by her daughters Gail Smerek (late Jim), Patricia Stempski (Roger), and Chris Blain (Deanna née Gaffney), and daughter- in-law Elaine Blain (Randy Webb). She also leaves six grandchildren: Andrea Smerek (David Spylo), Ethan Stempski, Rachel McNeil née Stempski (Kevin), Nathan (Christianne née Primeau), Justin (Vanessa née Huet), and Rylan. Memories of “GiGi“ will be treasured by Jaden, Griffin and Morgan Spylo, Caeleb, Landon and Phoenix Blain. Mary is survived by her sisters Anne Matthews (Allan) of Arizona and Jean Brosko of Toronto. She was predeceased by her brothers Peter, John, and Michael (WWII Veterans) and William, and sister Catherine Kuryllo (William). Mary was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and her birthplace Cobalt, Ontario. Her seven brothers and sisters were very dear to her. Mom will be remembered as a woman of unwavering faith and great courage. She was a feisty, strong-willed and independent lady. Full of energy, she always made the most of each and every day, and constantly placed others before herself. Our Gran was an active Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies' Auxiliary Branch 88. An avid reader, she enjoyed bridge and cards with friends, was blessed with wit and a sense of humour, and maintained continued interest in her community and world affairs. Mom's love of the Lord was firm. After a long battle with illnesses, she was finally granted her wish to be with her beloved Paul. She passed on to the Lord on Monday, August 18, 2008 at the Timmins and District Hospital. The family will greet relatives and friends at the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 (2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.) (7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.). A Royal Canadian Legion Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Jim Smerek Scholarship Fund (O'Gorman Foundation) or a charity of choice will be gratefully acknowledged. Funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony's Cathedral on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery.
