Barley, Edward Thorneycroft Jr, It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our father, grandfather on September 6, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Edward was born December 22, 1919 in Masstown, N.S., son of the late Edward Thorneycroft Sr and Sarah (Dawson) Barley. He was an accomplished musician, having made a recording with Lone Pine and Betty Cody. During the 50's, he was a regular on Saturday Night Jamboree, which was broadcast over CKCL in Truro, N.S. Ed formed his own band "The Barley Boys" playing for dances on a regular basis for 50 years; family band members included his father, Ed Sr., son, Dave and son-in-law Bill Simpson along with many other local talented musicians. He was employed by the Department of National Defence CFB Debert and later worked for the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 106, Debert, N.S. as well as being an associate and life member. He is survived by sons; Dave (Dot), Shediac Bridge, N.B., Doreen (Bill) Simpson, Debert, N.S., Gary (Janet), Moncton, N.B., Reg, Doug (Connie) and Doug Lattie (foster son) Debert, N.S., eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, many cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his wife the former Ivy Mosher in 2001. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, N.S. B2N 3W6. Rev Don MacQueen will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. A private family burial will follow in Folly Village Cemetery, Glenholme, NS. Donations in memory may be made to Glen Haven Manor. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting the "Guest Book" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com.
