Lorraine GULLANDER

ROBERTSON, Lorraine - G. Lorraine Robertson (nee Gullander), born in Brock, Saskatchewan, passed away at the age of 91, with daughters at her side in Kingston on September 19, 2008. At 15, Mom went to Saskatoon to continue her education and start her career. She met and married Clyde Oliver Robertson, her husband of 63 years. In Ontario, they raised four daughters, ever supportive while instilling each with strong family values and a sense of self worth. After a career as an executive secretary, mom earned a B.A. degree in English and Sociology from Carleton University, an M.Ed degree at the University of Ottawa and then continued her studies in a PhD program. Always a very caring and enthusiastic person, Mom gave much to her students at Stouffville H.S., and in Ottawa, at Sir Wilfred Laurier and Bell High School. As and educator and guidance counselor, she employed methods that were ahead of her time. Her positive attitude was contagious. Although Mom had many interests and contributed to her community, her family came first. Enjoying each moment and thus “building happy memories“ gave her the greatest pride and joy. Family and friends will remember her as a woman with a warm sense of humour, gentle and generous, and with a lot of class! Mom will be forever loved by her daughters; Anne (skip), Joan (Dave predeceased), Carol,, and Cathy (Danilo); grandchildren Karen (Adam), Mark (predeceased), and Todd; and great grandchildren Alex and Lindsay. The way mom lived her life is a gift to us and her inspiration will live on in all our hearts. Her spiritually and thirst for knowledge was exemplified by this quote from Teilhard de Chardin, the philosopher she admired: “The most satisfying thing in life is to have been able to give a large part of ones self to others“. A family service has taken place at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens and Mom and Dad are now together. Donations in Mom's memory may be made to a youth organization of your choice.
