WASHNUK, Alexander “Alex“ - Peacefully, at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Monday, September 8th, 2008 in his 84th year. Beloved and cherished husband of Verna for 60 years. Loving and devoted father of Paul (Deborah), Valerie (Steve) Grodesky, Kevin (Colleen) and Sharon (Bob) White. Grandpa was loved very much and will be missed by his grandchildren Melissa, Lindsay, Matthew, Justin, Steph, Bradley, Heather, Curtis, Derek and Kyle. Survived by his sister Vera Barty, and predeceased by his brothers John and Bill. Also survived by his sisters-in-law Eva and Laura. Brother-in law of Ken and Allan McClelland. Alex was a devoted employee with Beaverwood Fibre Company for over 40 years before retiring in 1985. He was proud to have served as a member of the Merchant Marines during the Second World War. Alex enjoyed fishing, boating and travelling north with his wife and family. The family will receive friends at the HAMMOND FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, September 12th, 2008 at 11:00 am. Interment at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens.
