TURCOTTE,Léona 2008-09-11 Léona Marie Blanche Turcotte (née Rouleau) died peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the age of 88 years, with her family by her side, and under the very compassionate care of Dr. Slivchak and the staff of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Léona was completely devoted to her family; a homemaker and seamstress extraordinaire, and one could not ask for a better, more loving mother and grandmother. Léona always strived to ensure that her children maintain their French heritage, and in her dedication to build a francophone community, in 1965 she was one of the founders of the still active Le Club Canadien Français de Thunder Bay. Her contagious "joie de vivre" and quick-witted sense of humour was her secret to longevity and kept us all smiling. Léona is predeceased by her husband Romeo Turcotte; parents Emma and Charles Rouleau; brothers Fernand, Arthur, Alfred, Alcide, Albert, George, Alphonse, Napoleon Rouleau; and sisters Eva Lessard, Alice Robillard, Maria Lacroix, and Alphonsine Dallaire. She is survived by her brother Gaudiose Rouleau; her loving children Albert Turcotte (Elaine), Anne Turcotte (Tony Seuret), Lise Turcotte, Yvette Canaday (Dave) and Rochel Turcotte; her grandchildren Kasey, Kelly and Kimberley Turcotte, Jesse Uliana, Cory, Aaron and Renée Hopper, Jeniah and Stephan Canaday, and Kyra Sved; six great grandchildren; her dearest friend Irene Sloan; her thoughtful niece Bernadette Thompson who visited regularly, and many more nieces and nephews, plus all of her friends and very caring staff at Glacier Ridge Retirement Residence. Léona may have been one person in the world, but she meant the world to many. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Leona Turcotte will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 with family and friends gathering at St. Andrew‘s R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. celebrated by Fr. Luigi Filippini. A private family interment will take place at a later date in St. Andrew‘s R.C. Cemetery.
