MCKAY, Madeline "Pep" 2008-10-04 With her children by her side, Madeline Laura “Pep” McKay passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Madeline was born on February 6, 1933 in Brandon Manitoba. She moved, with her family, to Geraldton in 1938 where she spent many happy years growing up and attending school. Madeline attended the McKellar School of Nursing graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1954. She has recounted many great stories of fun and lifelong friendships made during her years of training. In 1955 Madeline married her childhood sweetheart Harold “Red” McKay and moved back to Geraldton. There she began her calling as a compassionate caregiver in the Geraldton Hospital, followed by the best “school nurse” a kid could have. In 1978 Pep and Red “semi-retired” to Florida. She grew bored of retirement so Pep wrote her U.S. nursing exam and resumed her care giving in the local hospital and nursing homes, retiring in 1996. In 2005 she moved back to Thunder Bay to be closer to family. She will be sadly missed by her children Kerry Goodwin (George) and son Darcy (Heather), grandchildren Lori Willson (Dave), Shannon Goodwin (Neil), Darren Goodwin (Crystal), Lee-Ann Goodwin (Jeff), Adam McKay and 5 great grandchildren. Madeline is also survived by her sisters Margaret Cochrane and Hazel Lang, nieces and nephews. Madeline was predeceased by her husband Harold “Red” in 1998 and parents Laura and Fred Pepper. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Madeline‘s life will take place on Tuesday, October 7th, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, donations in Pep‘s memory to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation, or to the Charity of your choice would be appreciated.
