Violet Vera DODGE

COLYER, Violet 2008-10-09 On Tuesday, October 7, 2008 Mrs. Violet “Vi” Vera Colyer (nee Dodge), age 95 years, a resident of Thunder Bay passed away in hospital. Vi had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed spending time and sharing her many talents with her grandchildren. Vi enjoyed traveling, gardening and arts and crafts. Every year she entered her crafts into the competitions at the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition and won numerous awards. Vi worked for many years as a seamstress, often working well past midnight to meet her clients needs. Many young brides, including her grandchildren, appreciated the beautiful wedding dresses she created. Vi was involved for many years with the Home League of the Salvation Army. This organization gave her numerous hours of pleasure and many fond memories. Vi will be lovingly remembered by her sons Ernest (Sharon) Colyer and Donald Colyer, granddaughters Roberta (Peter) Simpson, Devona (Kris) Higdon, and Laurie (Gordon) Soloway, grandson Philip (Cecile) Colyer, 8 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Ernest (Nim) Colyer, parents John and Mary Dodge, brother Mervin Dodge, sisters Hazel Dodge, Dorothy Dove and Verna Leach, daughter-in-law Carol Colyer and grandson Jim Colyer. Funeral services will be held on Friday October 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Peter Charlebois of First Baptist Church presiding. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be held on Thursday (this evening) from 6-8 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations in Vi‘s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay, the M.S. Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
