RAMSAY, Dr. John Murray (Jack) - Dr. John M. (Jack) Ramsay, a long-time resident of Barrie, Ontario, passed away on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008, after a brief illness, in his 85th year. For the last several years, he and his wife Leah had been living with family members in Western Canada. Jack was the beloved husband of Leah (nee Lowe) of Terrace B.C.; cherished father of Don (Lauri) Ramsay of Terrace B.C., Anne (Douglas) Hall of Barrie, Ontario, and John (Adele) of Calgary, Alberta; dear brother of Robert (Bob) of Strathroy, Ontario; loving grandfather of John, Davidson, Adam, and Peter of Terrace; Jane, and Peter (Jennifer) of Barrie; and Rachelle and Megan of Calgary; and sweet Great Grandad of one- year-old Rowan. Jack was predeceased in 1990, by our dear mother Gwendolyn Anne , who lives forever in our hearts! Jack (Grandad) will be sadly missed and so fondly remember by our whole family, including many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews! Jack (Dr. Ramsay) lived a long and fulfilling life! He had a lengthy and distinguished history of service in the field of education. After his war service in the Ferry Command of the R.A.F., Jack graduated with a degree in Biology and Chemistry from Queen's University in 1948. He worked as a science specialist teacher in Toronto and North York High Schools, a high school principal in Smith Falls, and Galt (Cambridge), a school inspector for the Ontario Department of Education, and Superintendent of High Schools in the Barrie District. In 1969 Jack was appointed as the first Director of Education for the then, Simcoe County Board of Education, a position he held for ten years. In 1976, Jack was nominated by the Simcoe County Elementary Teachers to receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Wilfred Laurier University, for his work in encouraging teachers to upgrade their own education through the part-time courses being offered through Wilfred Laurier's satellite campus in Barrie. After ten years as Director, Jack left the education field and ventured into the business world, joining the Haye Associates Consulting Firm. He continued to work with Haye for ten more years.
