He will be sadly missed by his three girls: Maureen (late Raymond Poirier), Sharon Hawkins and Kathleen (Ken Christie). He was a much loved great-grandpa to Matthew and Chloe Poirier, Jasmine, Olivia and Ryan Olmi. Predeceased by his sisters Marjorie, Dorothy (Ivor Watkins) and Violet. Gerry was a member of The Canadian Grenadier Guards since the age of fifteen. He served in England during WWII and continued in the reserve regiment achieving the ranks of Regimental Sergeant Major, Lieutenant and retiring as Captain. He was known as "Leather Lungs" for his ability to shout out commands on parade. He served as President of the 6087 CGG Overseas Association. An active member of the Greenfield Park community: President of The Royal George Home and School Association, an actor and member of The Greenfield Park Players, a founder of The Greenfield Park Credit Union, President of The 50 Plus Club and The Golden Jubilee Club, volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Our Dad was known for his smooth waltzes with Mom, his wonderful sense of humor, singing and writing of poems. He was an avid reader, always learning something new to share with us. He loved receiving postcards from family and friends and he saved them all! Dad's motto was "Always leave them laughing" which he was able to do up to his last day. Dad was able to stay in our home of sixty-five years until his passing. We are so very thankful to Lynda Wood, his devoted caregiver, friend and card player. Many thanks to the CLSC-Champlain, especially Dr. Michel Crepeau, Christine Eden and Fabienne Rampy, the nurse who always sang with Dad. Your services enabled Dad to stay in the home he loved. At his request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Donations in his memory can be made to: Ste Anne's Hospital Foundation, 305 Boul des Anciens-Combattants, Sainte Anne de Bellevue, QC H9X 9Z9 or SPCA-Monteregie 178 Chemin de Vide, Ste Angele de Monnoir, QC J0L 1P0.
