SOIKA, Arlene Anna 2008-11-22 Mrs. Arlene Anna Soika, age 59, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2008 after a brave battle with cancer. Arlene was born in Port Arthur on March 26, 1949 and was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She and Danny celebrated their 40th anniversary on September 21, 2008. Arlene worked at the bank of Nova Scotia for 36 years, retiring in 2003 to spend time with her family. She enjoyed many school field trips and delivering lunches for her grandchildren. She was a lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church and a member and scorekeeper for the Lancer Dart Club. Together with friends and family she spent many a long night throwing darts into the wee hours of the morning, summer evenings around campfires and fishing with good friends. Arlene will be greatly missed by the love of her life and husband of 40 years, Danny; daughter Sharon DeLapp and son-in-law Ross; grandchildren and joys of her life Samantha and Danny DeLapp. She is also survived by sisters Norma Sundberg (Bert) of Knoxville; TN and Wilma Haywood (Rick); brother Larry Johnson (Nancy) of Smithers BC/Battleford, SK; brother-in-law John Soika (Sandy) of Moose Jaw, SK; nephews Kyle Sundberg, and Chris Soika (Michelle and family); nieces Janey Chupik (Jason) and Aubrie Johnson and cousin Martin Raivio. She was predeceased by her parents William and Esther Johnson; in-laws John and Marion Soika and friend Ian Kalik. A special thank you to the physicians and nurses in ICU and 1A at TBRHSC and St. Joseph‘s Hospice Unit, Dr. Miller and Dr. Davis. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 27, 2008 at Christ Lutheran Church with the Pastor Dan Repo officiating. A private family interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. If friends so desire, donations to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation, George Jeffrey Children‘s Treatment Centre or charity of choice would be gratefully appreciated.
