Mr. Lloyd Sopel - September 1, 2008 - “Uncle Lloyd” to all who knew him. Passed peacefully Sept. 1, 2008 at his home surrounded by those who were closest to him after a brief battle with cancer. Lloyd was born on the family farm at Ormside, Saskatchewan, one of 16 children of Maria and Peter Sopel. Lloyd moved to B.C. as a young man to find his fortune. In B.C. Lloyd traded his ploughshare for a shovel and the other tools of the heavy construction trade. Retiring in 1984 he enjoyed raising tomatoes, flowers, a golf green lawn and Larry and Annemarie’s three children. A gentle man who lived his life on his own terms and faced death as he lived—head on. His generosity was endless. There was rarely a day he wasn’t laughing as there were rarely a day he wasn’t helping someone. His suffering is at an end and he is together again with his best friend, Gus, perhaps enjoying an “Old Style.” Lloyd will be missed by family, friends, neighbors, his brothers Mike and Rudy, his sisters Annie, Verna and Alvena and most especially by Taylor, Mackenzie, Kaitlyn, Larry and Annemarie. Prayers will be held Monday, Sept. 8, 2008 at 7:00 pm with the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s the Worker Catholic Church, 4451 Williams Road, Richmond, B.C.
