McNABB, Jean Louise (Matheson) 1909 - 2008 After celebrating my 99th Birthday December 3, with my family, I decided it was now time to move on. My blindness has been quite difficult for me to accept although I must admit I have had a very active and healthy life. Born in High River made me a small town girl forever and gave me the opportunity to participate in sports which I loved. My parents, Louise and Peter Matheson had moved there from Ontario so my father could play lacrosse. Brother Archie, sister Marion and I, thoroughly enjoyed our growing up in a small town. I left High River to take my RN at the Royal Alex in Edmonton. Near the end of my training, I married my baseball coach, Harold McNabb and settled in Calgary. Our daughter Bettelou has always been by my side right up to the end. Unfortunately Harold, Mac as we all called him, passed away in 1955, leaving Bettelou and me to carry on. My nurses training was what I needed to secure a position with Dr. Frank Swartzlander, a career that continued for twenty-seven years. Following in my mother's footsteps, I became very active in the IOOF Lodge. My life was a busy and enjoyable experience with lots of good bridge games, sunny trips to Hawaii and the pleasure of watching my little family grow. My daughter and my brother's three girls, Dyann, Cheryl and Susan, gave me hours of pleasure watching them develop into responsible ladies, mothers and most of all, my dear friends. I will miss the good times with my family, daughter Bettelou and her husband George Stagg; their daughter, my granddaughter and a very special person in my life, Marion Leniczek and her husband Charles. Probably most of all, I will miss watching my special great-grandchildren Rex, Reid and Ayla continue their growth into responsible adults. I will now rest in peace with my parents, my brother Archie and his wife Mary, my sister Marion and her husband Jacques de Foras, my very close and dear friend Dorothy Walker and of course Mac. Special thanks to my great-niece who has spent so many of her valuable hours with me when I was active and to my last days, Cathy you are a very kind and caring woman, most of all my friend. I have requested that no Service be held for me. My family will deposit my remains in High River next spring. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
