Flora Theresa BROPHY

Flora Theresa Brophy August 8, 1953 - January 5, 2009 Flora Theresa Brophy, beloved wife of Gerald Brophy, passed away peacefully at home in Calgary on January 5th, 2009, at the age of 55 years. In addition to her loving husband, Flora is also survived by her children, Vincent and Jill; grandchildren, Brady and Alisha; siblings, Russell, Ray, Emlene, Michael, Elaine, Francis, and Harold Murphy. Born and raised in Dunville, Newfoundland, Flora later attended universities Memorial University of Newfoundland, and the University of Lethbridge, Alberta. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Memorial in Social Work. Flora’s career spanned 30 fruitful years working for the Federal Government in a variety of roles in Lethbridge, Edmonton, and Calgary, including: refugee assistance and immigration recruitment, employment assistance and counseling, job creation, and social program development for the homeless. She would spend the majority of her time as a Labour Market Information Officer with the Employer Services Unit in Lethbridge, all of whom she dearly missed. In her personal life Flora loved to sing and had the most beautiful voice; she enjoyed gardening, the sun, and was often found smiling outside; a tireless study, she was constantly improving on herself and even became fluent in French. Flora’s life was altruistically devoted to helping people and she did so with all the love and grace of an angel. Her love for and devotion to her family is magnificent and inspiring. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and loving family. Flora has asked that donations be made in her honour to Look Good Feel Better (Helping Women with Cancer) at www.lgfb.ca and/or the Wellspring Program for Cancer Patients at www.wellspringcalgary.com. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 541 Silver Grove Drive NW, Calgary, Alberta, on Saturday, January 10th , 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Au revoir Maman, merci de nous tous.
