McLEOD, Lloyd 2009-01-24 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Lloyd McLeod on Saturday, January 17th, 2009 after a short battle with cancer. He was born January 29th, 1942 in Bathurst, New Brunswick. At the young age of 16, Lloyd decided to leave his loving mother to fulfill his adventure as a wheelsman on the Great Lakes and deep seas. He traveled from the Caribbean to Scotland to the Great Lakes where he met his love and long time companion, Joan. It was only after 20 years he wanted to stay closer to his love that he brought in his sails and took on his new adventures on the highways. It was at this time he began his employment with Pollard Trucking and over the next 20 years became a loyal employee and friend to Gat Tremblay and his many co-workers. Lloyd always committed to keeping in shape by weight lifting and boxing. At the age of 40 he was boxing with the best in Thunder Bay at the Joe Majors Boxing Club. Lloyd was a quiet man who liked to keep to himself but his sense of humour could bring tears of laughter to everyone fortunate enough to know him. He never asked for much, was happy with little and was always ready to give a helping hand to anyone. Lloyd had a strong love for animals and he adored their dogs Princess and Dutchess. They miss him dearly. Lloyd is survived by long time companion Joan, step-daughters Shelly, Cheryl, Bobbie-Leigh and Shiela, loving mother Elvie, sisters Jean and Alice, sister-in-law Pat, brother-in-law Gilles, 11 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Lloyd was predeceased by his father William and step-father Mel Comeau, brother-in-law Carl Knowles, niece Lana Kelley, Joan’s mother Ellen Ross and also aunts and uncles. A gathering will be held for family and friends at the home of Joan and Lloyd on Sunday, January 25th, 2009 at one o’clock.
