Mrs. Agnes Hilliard March 24, 1915 - January 19, 2009 Agnes (née Magee) HILLIARD BA 93 years of age, died peacefully in her sleep, Monday January 19th, 2009 at Centenary Health Centre. Agnes was predeceased by Irwin her loving husband and companion for sixty-two years. She will be missed by her four children and their spouses Ann and Russ (Vanstone), Bob and Jean, John and Mary, Barbara and Doug (Lavender), by her nine grandchildren Chris, Peter, James, Michael, Ann, Aubrey, Lindsey, Graham and Cameron and seven great grandchildren Connor, Rebecca, Makayla, Samson, Payton, Tristan and Jordan and predeceased by granddaughter Kristina. Agnes was born and raised in London, Ontario attending the University of Western Ontario. After teaching briefly at East York Collegiate Institute, Agnes and Irwin went off to serve with the United Church of Canada in Fuling, Sichuan Province, China. They returned to Toronto in 1945 and were members of St. George’s United Church. From 1954 to 1962 Irwin and Agnes moved to Saskatoon where Agnes was very involved as a volunteer with Knox United Church and the University Hospital at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1962 they returned to Scarborough where Agnes again volunteered with Washington United Church (now Scarborough Bluffs United Church), the Toronto Western Hospital Auxiliary, the YWCA, and Seven Oaks Home for the Aged. To Agnes, her relationship with God and the Church, her beloved husband Irwin and her family were always the most important. Agnes was the “glue” that held the Hilliard family together hosting many parties and family gatherings. She will be sadly missed by family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, donations could be sent to Scarborough Bluffs United Church or the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for her during her past admission. Visitation will be held at McDougall & Brown, Scarborough Chapel, 2900 Kingston Road (just east of St. Clair) on Friday January 23rd, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and the funeral also at McDougall and Brown Saturday January 24th, 1:00 pm.
