Leonard B. Arbour, 92, Green Bay, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at a local hospital. Leonard was born June 24, 1913, in Waubaushene, Ontario, Canada, to the late Merrill and Georgina (Bazinet) Arbour. He worked eight years sailing the Great Lakes for the Canadian Steamship Lines and later was employed as a Stationary Engineer at St. Augustine’s Seminary in Toronto, Ontario. Prior to serving in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Petty Officer during World War II, he was employed at Munitions plants in Niagara Falls and Nobel, Ontario. Leonard married Mary Vermote on November 27, 1945, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins, Michigan. Leonard and his wife moved to Green Bay in 1947. He was a member of Annunciation Parish where he served as an usher and was a member of the church and grounds committee. He was employed by Wisconsin Public Service Corporation from 1947 until his retirement in 1977. Leonard owned and operated the Arbour Landscape Service. Since his retirement, Leonard was active in Volunteer Services to the elderly and enjoyed traveling, cards and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and his wife spent their winters in North Fort Meyers, Florida, since 1979.Leonard is survived by his wife, Mary; 10 children and their spouses, Mary Ellen (Frank) Berg, Richfield, Minn.; Georgina (Richard) Leanna, Green Bay; Diane (Harland) Matthews, Green Bay; Frederick (Shirley) Arbour, Fridley, Minn.; Pauline (William) Shook, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada; Timothy (Julie) Arbour, Green Bay; Jeanne (Randy) Johnson, Seymour; Annette (Wayne) Rollin, Fond du Lac; Dr. Thomas (Leann) Arbour, Green Bay; Dr. Joan Arbour, Woodbury, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Arbour, Allison Park, Penn. He is further survived by 25 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Pullen, Toronto, Canada; a brother and sister-in-law, Stanley “Bud” (Mony) Arbour, Barrie, Ontario, Canada.Leonard was preceded in death by his son, Bernard; a granddaughter, Katharine Suzanne Ackelson; four sisters, Alda Bourdeau, Pamela Rivers, Alma Sampson, and Cecelia Johnson; four brothers, Orville, Gilbert, Dorman and William Arbour.Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Annunciation Catholic Church, 401 Gray Street. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park.Leonard will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary, his children and their families.His family wishes to express their gratitude to the staffs of Harmony House Assisted Living for their care of Leonard during his illness.In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his name.
