Gertrude Jean COTE

NEW BEDFORD -- Gertrude Jean Laferriere, 86, of New Bedford died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at Sacred Heart Home after a brief illness. She was the widow of Gerard L. Laferriere. Born in Westport, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Marie (Parent) Cote. She lived in New Bedford all her life and was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. She was an expediter for the Acushnet Co. for nearly 40 years until she retired in 1980. Mrs. Laferriere was a member of the Society of St. Anne. She enjoyed needlepoint, gardening and taking trips with her daughter, especially by train. She was an adventurous person. Survivors include a daughter, Aline Laferriere of New Bedford; a son, Gerard J. Laferriere, and his wife, Betty, of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Theresa Laferriere, Ida Lemieux, Marie Guilotte, Alma Pelletier, Yvonne Cournoyer, Xavier Cote, Charles Cote, John Cote, Desire Cote, Isadore Cote, Octave Cote, Florida Cote, George Cote, Antoine Cote and Cecile Cote. She was the great-grandmother of the late Sean Laferriere. Her funeral will be at 8 a.m. Saturday at Brooklawn- Chausse-Dumont Funeral Home, 15 Irvington Court, with a Mass at 9 at St. Anthony's Church, Acushnet Avenue. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
