Marie DURAND

GREAT BARRINGTON -- Marie Seyffert, 96, died Saturday at Fairview Commons where she had resided for the past two years. Born Sept. 18, 1908, in Huntington, N.Y., daughter of John B. and Marie P. Durand, she was a graduate of Huntington High School. Mrs. Seyffert was the administrative assistant to the superintendent of Harborfields Central School in Greenlawn, N.Y. She was involved in many civic organizations, serving as president of the Greenlawn PTA and the Western Suffolk County Girl Scouts Council. Marie moved to Great Barrington in the 1980s. She was active in local organizations such as Fairview Hospital Auxiliary, Construct Incorporated, Great Barrington Garden Club and served as president of the Thursday Morning Club. Her husband, John Seyffert, died in 1967. She leaves her daughter, Claudette M. Callahan of New Marlboro; a son, John D. Seyffert of Barnstable; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Marie Seyffert will be Saturday, April 2, 2005, beginning at 11 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, with a funeral Mass to follow at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield. The burial will be at a later date in Huntington, N.Y., in the family plot. Calling hours will Friday, April 1, from 4 to 7, with the rosary being recited at 4; and again on Saturday, April 2, from 9 to 10:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thursday Morning Club Scholarship Fund through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
