Beatrice H. GAGNON

NEW BEDFORD -- Beatrice H. (Gagnon) Barton, 89, of East Freetown died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the widow of Normand Barton. Born in Canada, she was the daughter of the late Pierre and Helen (Gobeil) Gagnon. She lived in New Bedford before moving to Freetown 50 years ago and was a communicant of St. John Neumann Church in East Freetown. She graduated from St. Anthony School. She worked as an inspector at Acushnet Co. Golf Division for 20 years. She previously was a stitcher at Wamsutta Mills. She was a member of St. Hedwig Seniors. Mrs. Barton enjoyed visiting ill patients, relatives and friends at hospitals and nursing homes in her leisure time. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren. She was an excellent seamstress. Survivors include her son, David N. Barton, and his wife, Maureen, of East Freetown; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Roland Gagnon. Her funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow at St. John Neumann Church. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
