Barry J. LABONTE

LaBONTE, BARRY J., of Columbia, Maryland passed away on October 24, 2005. Barry was the son of William and Evelyn LaBonte. He was married for twenty two years to Beatrice Hawkins. Bea and their three children, Hillary, Anna, and Allan will miss his love, humor and guidance. Other members of his family include his sister Karen Beauchesne and his nephew Alexander of Narrangansett and his brother William LaBonte of Florida. The Hawkins Ohana include his mother-in-law Yukie, sisters-in-law Liz and Rose, brothers-in-law Joel and Forrest, nieces Elizabeth and Krishelle who all live in Hawaii.Barry graduated from Pilgrim High School in Warwick, RI and received a PhD from California Institute of Technology in California.Barry served as a Professor and Astronomer at the University Of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy.Most recently, Barry served as Principal Professional Staff in the Space Department at John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Barry is widely published in solar physics, has served on many scientific, solar and space workgroups and will be remembered for his many contributions to the field of solar astronomy.Memorial Donations to the LaBonte Children Scholarship Fund c/o APL Credit Union, PO Box 418 Laurel, MD 20725 are appreciated in lieu of flowers.Published in The Providence Journal on 10/31/2005.
