Veleda LAFOND

Veleda Balthazor, 70, Marinette passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2005, at home. She was born on Aug. 11, 1934, to the late Arthur and Mary (Schneider) LaFond in Rawdon, Quebec, Canada. She graduated from Marinette County Teacher’s College in 1954. She married Roger Balthazor on June 18, 1955, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Coleman. She worked as a paraprofessional in the Marinette Public School System for 21 years, retiring in 1995. She was an active member in the Holy Family Parish, the Altar Society, and the Diabetes Assoc. Through out her very courageous battle with cancer she never wavered from her unending concern for all of her family and friends.She will be sadly missed and survived by her loving husband, Roger and their five children, Michael (Kathleen), Menominee; Kevin (Carma Tress), Marinette; David (Susan), Green Bay; Julie (Nicola) Porcelli, Northbrook, Ill.; Denise (Jeff) Schlaak, Oshkosh; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.Friends may call at St. Joseph’s Church on Carney Boulevard on Monday, May 30, after 9:30 a.m. until time of services. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Dorner officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Home Mausoleum. Thielen Funeral Home is assisting the family.In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for Bay Area Cancer Center has been established.The family wished to thank Dr. David Mertens and staff from the oncology Dept. at BAMC along with the Unity Hospice Group for their kind care and support.
