Georgina May SPENCE

HOLLOWAY, Georgina May (formerly Martin) (nee Spence) Passed away February 4, 2009 in Moosomin, Sask. Georgina was born in Kelso, Saskatchewan on May 29, 1928, the daughter of Robert and Christie Spence. She grew up and went to school in the Kelso and Moosomin areas with her six brothers and sisters (Angus, Don, Gordon, Marge, Marion and Len). Georgina graduated from Normal School and then taught in rural schools at Kendalton and Coot Hill near Wapella. In 1951 she married (George Martin of Wapella) and spent most of the next thirty-three years in Calgary, where she raised two sons, Rob and Ken, and had a long and successful career as a teacher with the Calgary Public School Board. She taught for many years at the elementary schools of Rosscarrock, Glen Meadows and Glenbrook in southwest Calgary. Upon retiring in 1984, she met and married Fred Holloway and moved from Calgary back to Wapella. She spent her last twenty-five years in Wapella, playing an active roll in the community in many capacities. She is survived by her children, Rob (Elaine) Martin and Ken Martin. Her stepchildren, Bruce (Karen) Holloway, Brenda (Keith) Jones, Gwen Holloway and Cameron (Lee-Anne) Holloway. Her grandchildren, Sean Martin, Randy Dartage, Alyssa Hockley, Mark Holloway, Riley Holloway and Ashley Holloway, will all miss her. She will be warmly remembered by her family and many friends for her vibrant nature, and the help she gave to others throughout her life. Funeral Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wapella, Saskatchewan on February 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to "The Arthritis Society".
