Katherine Sophie HVIZDOS

KOVACIK, Katherine Sophie March 21, 1929 - February 9, 2009 Kay (Katherine) Kovacik, beloved mother and grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Monday, February 9, 2009 at the age of 79 years following a brief illness. Kay was born and raised in Bellevue, Alberta. She received her nursing training at the Holy Cross School of Nursing graduating in 1950. Kay's nursing career began in Vulcan, Alberta. She and John were married on September 26, 1953 in Bellevue. They moved to Calgary in 1955 and it has been their home every since. Kay's nursing career included working on the maternity unit at the Holy Cross Hospital, occupational health nursing with Imperial Oil, homecare with VON and finally working with the Alberta Government at the Infectious Disease Clinic. She enjoyed gardening, baking, bridge and most of all spending time with her family. Kay is survived by her three children, Catherine (Pat), Allan (Joan) and Sharon (Axsel). Kay's pride and joy were her nine grandchildren: Mark (Laura), Stephen (Karly), Paul, Geoffrey, Blaine, Kevin, David, Craig and Holly. Kay is also survived by her sister Mary Gray and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Kay was predeceased by her husband John in 2007, her parents John and Catherine Hvizdos, her sisters Sophie Baruta and Anne Brown and her brothers John, Gaspar and Steve Hvizdos. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (404 Northmount Place N.W.) on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (404 Northmount Place N.W.) on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery.
