Clifford Raymond MACKEAN

MacKEAN, Clifford Raymond 1927 - 2009 After a well-fought battle with prostate cancer, Cliff joined his late wife Alice Hilborn MacKean (1997) in the early morning on Valentines Day, Saturday, February 14th, 2009. Although we have lost a wonderful brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, we are grateful to have experienced his love, commitment to family, sharp wit and rock-steady determination. Dearly loved son of the late Edwin and Irene (Nichols), brother of Edgar (Nan Robertson), late Margaret (late Ed Loveridge), and late Cecil (Helen Macdonald). Brother-in-law of Jim and David Hilborn. Beloved father of Glenda (Colin Carwardine), Debbie (Rob Scammell), Bruce, Gordon (Laura Jessup) and Robert (Bernice Hennessy). Adored and will be missed by thirteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his niece Nancy MacKean Lynch. Born in New Glasgow and raised in Eureka, N.S., Cliff made his way to Ottawa for work in 1946 where he later met and married Alice in 1951. They moved to Dartmouth, N.S. in 1956, returning to Ottawa in 1962, where he has resided since. The family would like to thank the teams at the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre and the Queensway Carleton Hospital. Special thanks are extended to Dr. V. Hurdon, the extraordinarily caring community palliative nurses, and the terrific staff of Stillwater Creek Retirement Community. Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, (between Bayshore and Baseline Road), Nepean on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 from 1 p.m. until time of memorial service in the chapel at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Motorcycle Ride for Dad to help fight prostate cancer, or a charity of your choice, would be greatly appreciated. Condolences, tributes or donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com. Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 2/15/2009- 2/16/2009
